Ramadan is among the holiest months in Islam. It is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and giving to others. In Pakistan, the government usually announces special aid programs to assist people during Ramadan, especially families who require help with food and money. In 2026, then Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif (also in opposition) announced a big support plan known as the Ramadan Package or Nigehban Ramadan Package for millions of families.

Here are the key elements of the plan:
1. Cash Assistance of Rs. 10,000
Families eligible under the programme receive Rs 10,000 per household. The cash is intended to assist with daily expenses, groceries, and other necessities during Ramadan.
2. Nigehban Card / Ramadan Card
The government has a special card, known as the Ramadan Nigehban Card, to receive cash or procure items through the program.
3. Discounted Essential Goods
The program also includes Sahulat Bazaars (special markets) where essential food items are available at discounted prices so poor and middle-class families can afford them.
4. Nigehban Dastarkhwan (Community Meals)
The government sets up places called Dastarkhwan where people can go to get free iftar meals every day during Ramadan in local areas (called tehsils).

Who Can Get This Help?
The program is designed for families who truly need help. It’s not for everyone (you don’t just automatically get it — there’s a set of ground rules you’ll need to meet to be considered an eligible candidate):
- You should be domiciled in Punjab, Pakistan.
- Your family needs to be low-income or financially needy.
- The head of the family must have an original CNIC.
- You must have registration on the official Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER). This helps the government screen who actually needs help.
The government has taken a series of measures to ensure assistance is dispensed fairly and transparently, including biometric verification as well as other modern systems.
What Is “Maryam Ko Batain”?

You can apply online if you have internet. There is an official online system where you can put in your information, upload your CNIC and apply for the program.
To apply online:
- ✔ Go to the official PSER or government website.
- ✔ Enter CNIC number, Mobile Number and your family’s information.
- ✔ Once you have filled out the form, simply click submit and receive your confirmation.
This way is convenient as you can submit an application from home and not to stand in line at the government departments.

What Happens After You Apply?
After you apply ( Apply online, by phone, or in person):
- 👉 Authorities check you through PSER and CNIC verification.
- 👉 If you meet all of these conditions and if you are eligible, then 10,000 rupees will be deposited into your bank account.
- 👉 You can withdraw your money at some bank ATMs or receive it through other government banking programs.
- 👉 You will also be able to avail food discounts and community meal services through the Ramadan Nigehban Card.
